We have had to move the Rocky Mountain Highland Games to the weekend of August 4 & 5, due to a conflict with a huge event the city of Denver decided to put on the second weekend of August. Unfortunately, this puts us one week after Hole in the Wall’s tournament in July. That is just too close for Terry & Hole in the Wall to be running both tournaments, so they would like to hand this over to another club. I hate to cancel it altogether, after so many years of keeping it a part of the Festival, so I am asking if there are any other clubs interested in taking over the running of this tournament, it can even be a shared thing by two clubs.
Yes, I know it is hot, yes, I know it is only one week after Laramie, yes, I know it is a pain with having to do the thing with the golf carts etc. But I also know this is one of our most popular events, and I know we have people in Flyball now, who were first introduced to our crazy sport at the Rocky Mountain Highland Games. I believe Live and Let Fly has a student from the 2011 tournament.
Last year, thanks to the hard work of a fellow committee member (Pete Sonner), the tournament became a frills tournament. Pete is already lining up sponsors for frills again. He needs to know whether he should keep looking for sponsors. Mr. Hay of the Clan Hay is certainly ready to hand out awards again! None of this has to be dealt with by the managing club, and is paid for by the sponsors.
Same for the volunteer’s drawing. We don’t charge for the space and passes are provided. I believe the only expenses are the judge and NAFA. Anything you make off entries is yours. You will need to talk to Terry McClean about the bottom line.
I have heard from a few individuals wishing to help out, but as yet no clubs. Again, this doesn’t have to be just one club running the show, it can be shared. If you feel you would be able to take on this tournament, please let me know.
